====== Unit does not start ====== Normal power on sequence is described here. If your unit does not start correctly when power is turned on there are a couple of steps you can perform in order to try recovering: * Make sure the power supply is plugged in. //(Just joking, of course you have plugged it in, but this phrase is so common in all trouble-shooting guides we felt we need to include it too.)// * **Check what is the unit's display showing:** ===== RST ===== If unit displays just RST for more than a minute then the firmware image in the unit has become damaged and cannot be loaded. If you have a dual-banked unit you can use the Time Machine to revert back to the firmware and configuration as it was before the last firmware upgrade: - Hold SEL button pressed when powering on unit. - Keep SEL button pressed until "Old" is shown in display. Now unit uses old firmware and configuration - like it was before last firmware upgrade. If "Old" does not show after one minute then your unit is not dual-banked, or the time machine cannot operate for some reason. Then you need to use the troubleshooting:lifeboat to load a new firmware image into the unit again. ===== CFG RST ===== If unit displays CFG RST for more than a minute then the firmware could not start up correctly. It could fail start because of an incorrect or damaged configuration. Perform a reset to settings_and_administration:factory_defaults: - Hold SEL and ALT buttons pressed when powering on unit. - Wait until RST and RS becomes lit. - Release SEL and ALT buttons. - Power off unit, then power it on again. If unit still does not start correctly use the troubleshooting:lifeboat to load a new firmware image into the unit again. ===== Empty (nothing shown) ===== First of all: make sure the display really is completely empty. Units with no WAN access display an //almost// empty display, with just one single dot lit. In that case re-check and adjust your unit's WAN (Internet) connection. If the display really is completely empty then try using the troubleshooting:lifeboat to load a new firmware image into the unit. If that fails too the unit, or its power supply, is probably damaged and needs repair. ===== 888 ===== If display shows "888" (all segments lit) the unit's bootloader has failed to start. The unit is damaged and needs repair. ===== Other ===== If display shows some other data please check the display description page for further information. ====== Lifeboat ====== In most cases a seemingly dead unit can be brought back to life by using the troubleshooting:lifeboat.
