SIP Configuration

The Internet Gate fully supports the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). SIP is used to establish multimedia sessions between users on a network (i.e. the Internet).

By default the Internet Gate is completely SIP transparent. The Internet Gate analyses the passing SIP traffic and dynamically controls the firewall to make multimedia packages pass through.

You can configure how the SIP traffic should be managed by the firewall, set up the Internet Gate to act as a SIP Server for a domain and set up rules which users that should be able to register on the SIP server.

The SIP Switch

Your Internet Gate can be software upgraded with the SIP Switch Software. This software will enhance the functionality of your Internet Gate and give it PBX-like features for software and hardware SIP clients integrating them with each other, the SIP world and the old telephony network via gateways.

Control Registrations

You can control who should be able to register on your Internet Gate SIP server.

  1. Select SIP Switch from the SIP page or main menu.
  2. Enter how you want external and internal users to be able to register on your SIP switch in the field Allow to register under General SIP Server Setting.
  3. Fill in the table under SIP accounts and Incoming Call Processing, see below.

Specific users that you want to be able to register on the Internet Gate you add in the table:

SIP User Name If Match full SIP URI for incoming calls is selected under General SIP server settings , you should enter the full SIP User Name (e.g. peter@company.com) in this column, otherwise just enter the SIP User Name e.g. “peter of peter@…). This is also the user name you enter when logging into the personal page through User Log In at the first page of the user web interface.
Authentication User ID Enter the User ID used for authentication of SIP requests. Authentication for registering at this SIP Server can be turned on in the General SIP Server Setting and authentication can also be forced in the Dial Plan. If authentication is turned on, the User ID in the SIP client must match the one entered here. The user can change this field on his personal page.
Authentication Password Enter the password used for authentication and for logging in to the personal page. If authentication is turned on, the Password in the SIP client must match the one entered here. The user can change his password on his personal page.

:!: Some of the settings on the SIP Switch settings page require the SIP Switch software license.

SIP User Administration

Add SIP user accounts if you want to set up authorization policies or automatically redirect incoming SIP sessions to an address or domain.

You do not need to add users just to enable them to register on the SIP Server, you control who should be able to register from Allowed to register on the SIP Switch page. See above.
